Nyeri county is home of the late Nobel laureate Wangari Maathai. Its capital and largest town is Nyeri. It has a population of 759,164 and an area of 2361 km2. The county has a beautiful national museum, Baden-Powell information center and museum and the wonderful Chinga dam and waterfall. It also has an Italian war memorial church that is only open for mass once a year. Located in Kenya’s fertile highlands, food and water are plentiful and relatively cheap.
