Lamu County is located in the Northern Coast of Kenya. It boarders Republic of Somalia to the northeast and has a population of about 143,920. Lamu town is the oldest and best-preserved Swahili settlement in the East Africa Region retaining its culture and tradition, retaining its traditional functions. The county is rich in minerals like titanium, salt, limestone, coral stones and sand therefore mining and exploration is one of the major economic activities in the region. The area is open for trade and investment and with the Lamu Port South Sudan – Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor Project expected to strengthen the area as a transport and logistics hub.
