Laikipia is a Maasai word equivalent to trees plain reflecting its large highland plateau. The County is a cosmopolitan with close to 23 communities inclusive of Rendille, Samburu, Somali, Maasai, Kikuyu & Kalenjin. The county is located on the equator, with Nanyuki & Nyahururu as its major urban centers, & its headquarters in Rumuruti. Being largely rural in settlement, the county’s main economic activities comprise of dairy farming, ranching, crop farming (wheat, maize, beans, potatoes, and vegetables), trade & tourism (Wildlife, the Unique Maa Speaking Cultural practices, and the Thomson Falls).
